Where Does our State Pension Rank?

Where does our state pension rank?

I know it’s the last thing on your mind at the moment, me too really, priority is keeping body and soul together right now, and albeit I’m sure COVID-19 will be with us for some months to come the vaccine provides a chink of light. So, to lighten the mood even more I thought I’d touch on the state pension. (eyeball roll)!

We believe the days of drawing your state pension at 65 are long gone but I read an article recently highlighting where the UK’s pension scheme sat out of 39 other countries, based on adequacy, sustainability and integrity grading from A – D, A being the best. It caught my eye so I thought you might be interested.

So where do you think the UK sits? I wasn’t too optimistic but here are some of the countries and where they sat including the UK (Source: Mercer’s annual survey Nov 2020)

No.39 Thailand D

No.39 Thailand D

No.33 China D

No.22 Spain C

No.18 USA C+

No.15 UK C+

No 14 Ireland B

No 11 Germany B

No 1 Netherlands A

Top 5 are 1.Netherlands, 2. Denmark, 3. Israel, 4. Australia, 5. Finland

There were a few surprises but in the whole scheme of things UK is a C+ or ‘could do better’ but then you knew that didn’t you?

If you would rather not rely on the state pension, you know who to call!
